Your timeline to savings:
Milestones in your Nexamp journey

Saving money on your electricity bills while supporting a more sustainable future is a win-win, and community solar makes that possible. By joining a community solar program, you can enjoy the benefits of renewable energy without installing any panels on your property. But before the savings kick in, there are a few important steps in the process to understand.

In this article, we’ll walk you through the key milestones in the Nexamp journey so you know exactly what to expect along the way.

You’re placed on a solar farm

We first calculate how many panels you’ll need based on your electricity usage over the past 12 months, ensuring you get the right amount of solar power for your needs. This part of the process is like putting together a giant puzzle, fitting you and other subscribers into the available space on our solar farms.

Our goal is to match you with a solar farm as soon as possible. Sometimes, due to the high demand, you may be placed on a farm that is still under construction (you can learn more about the construction process here). When the farm is ready we then secure approval from your local utility to connect the farm to the power grid.

Your utility is approving your placement on a farm

Once you are placed on a farm we submit your information to your utility company for approval. Typically the approval process can take anywhere from one to three months but can vary because each utility has its own set of rules and state regulations to follow.

Your electricity savings begin

Once your farm is generating clean energy, you’ll begin to see your community solar credits show up on your utility bill. The energy produced by your share of the solar farm helps power the local grid. You get credited for your share of the farm by your utility, which in turn lowers the amount you pay to your utility.

Your first Nexamp invoice is ready

About 30 days after your farm goes live you will receive your first Nexamp invoice. This will show the community solar credits your share of the farm has generated during the month, along with the discounted amount you owe.

Nexamp charges you for your solar credits because, like all forms of energy, there are costs associated with producing and maintaining our systems and farms. We discount the cost of the energy, but it is not free. By charging for the solar credits you receive, we recoup our costs while still allowing you to save money on your electricity bills.

We’ll keep you informed along the way

We know this feels like a long process, but the payoff is well worth it. Once you’re connected to a solar farm you can continue to enjoy savings on your electricity bill for years to come. If you have any questions throughout the process, our team is always on hand to help. Drop us a line anytime at Support@Nexamp.com.
